Review: Rimping Village Hotel

Thinking of staying in Chiang Mai for a few nights? I stayed at a boutique property called Rimping Village Hotel and here’s what I have to say about it!

Tucked just across the Ping River from Chiang Mai’s historic old town, Rimping Village Hotel is one of those rare boutique stays that perfectly balances peace, charm, and convenience. With its lush tropical gardens, traditional Northern Thai design, and famously attentive service, this intimate 30–40 room property has become a favorite for travelers who want a quieter, more authentic Chiang Mai experience without sacrificing access to the city’s main attractions.

A Peaceful Location Close to Everything

Rimping Village sits in the Wat Ket neighborhood, a slightly quieter area just across the river from Chiang Mai’s bustling old city. While it feels tucked away from the noise, it’s actually extremely convenient—guests can walk or take a short ride across the bridge to reach the Night Bazaar, Sunday Walking Street, and the historic temples of the old town.

Many guests love this “best of both worlds” location: calm and residential when you return to the hotel, but still close enough to enjoy Chiang Mai’s food, markets, and nightlife within minutes.

Boutique Design with Northern Thai Character

The hotel’s design reflects traditional Northern Thai architecture with warm wood tones, terracotta floors, and low-rise buildings arranged around a central courtyard. At the heart of the property sits a beautiful swimming pool shaded by a towering, century-old banyan tree—one of the most photographed features of the hotel.

The atmosphere is intentionally low-key and intimate. There are no high-rise buildings or flashy resort elements – just peaceful garden pathways, shaded seating areas, and a sense of quiet that feels increasingly rare in Chiang Mai.

Rooms: Spacious, Comfortable, and Thoughtfully Equipped

Rooms at Rimping Village are known for being spacious and comfortable rather than overly luxurious. Expect:

  • Large layouts with wood furnishings and Thai-inspired décor
  • Private balconies or terrace access
  • Air conditioning and strong Wi-Fi
  • Coffee and tea facilities
  • Clean, well-maintained bathrooms with walk-in showers

Guests frequently highlight how clean and quiet the rooms are, making it a great option for couples, solo travelers, and families alike.

The Pool & Garden: A True Highlight

The swimming pool is often described as the heart of the hotel. Surrounded by tropical greenery and shaded by large trees, it offers a relaxing escape from Chiang Mai’s heat. Whether you’re starting your morning with a swim or unwinding after a day of sightseeing, the pool area is one of the hotel’s biggest draws.

The gardens surrounding it create a calm, almost village-like atmosphere—something that aligns perfectly with the hotel’s name.

Breakfast & Dining Experience

Breakfast was included in my stay and always so fresh and delicious. Served in a garden-facing dining area, the buffet typically includes:

  • Fresh tropical fruit
  • Eggs made to order
  • Thai noodle dishes
  • Western staples like toast and pancakes
  • Coffee, tea, and juices

There’s also a light, relaxed café-style dining feel throughout the day, I appreciated the peaceful outdoor setting under the trees. I also appreciated all of the net coverings so flies can’t enter.

Service That Stands Out

One of the most consistently praised aspects of Rimping Village is its staff. Reviews frequently mention the team’s friendliness, attention to detail, and willingness to help with everything from transport arrangements to local recommendations.

It’s the kind of service that feels personal rather than transactional, which is a big part of why many travelers return again and again.

Amenities & Extras

Despite its boutique size, the hotel offers a solid set of amenities:

  • Outdoor swimming pool
  • Free bicycles for exploring the city
  • Airport transfers and tour assistance
  • Free parking
  • 24-hour front desk
  • Wi-Fi throughout the property

The free bicycles, in particular, are a guest favorite—making it easy to reach the old city in about 5–10 minutes.

Who Rimping Village Is Best For

This hotel is especially well-suited for:

  • Couples looking for a romantic, quiet stay
  • Travelers who prefer boutique hotels over large resorts
  • First-time visitors who want easy access to the old city
  • Digital nomads who value calm surroundings
  • Families wanting a relaxed base with a pool

It may not be ideal for those seeking nightlife, ultra-modern luxury, or a central “in-the-action” location. Rimping Village Hotel captures a side of Chiang Mai that many travelers don’t expect—peaceful, green, and deeply relaxed while still being close to everything that matters. It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but that’s exactly its appeal. If your idea of the perfect Chiang Mai stay includes quiet mornings by the pool, bike rides into the old city, and warm, personal service, Rimping Village delivers exactly that experience.
